Original Agenda

Minutes

Topic: Status with InteropFest

  • Status with InteropFest
    • Two companies have already gotten the test case to work

Jon: Name "InteropFest" not yet finalized. We discussed via email but I did not see consensus. I noticed that a couple of other standards organizations used the term InteropFest so I used that name for the wiki pages for the time being.

Jon: Two companies have passed test so far, OpenLinkSW and ILOG.

Dominic: I tried the ILOG link. Not successful.

Jon: I will send them email.

Ted: I just tried. You need to wait. Lower segment takes time.

Dominic: What's aim with InteropFest? Send out a press release?

Jon: If we have enough successful use of the interoperability test, then our plan is to send out a press release. But we haven't committed to a press release.

Jon: Some other members who are known to be working on the test case include Dojo, TIBCO, Nexaweb and ITMill.

David: Adam should have Dojo working soon.

Topic: Terms Of Use, Logos and Trademarks, official logos posted on Web site

Jon: This item is mainly an FYI. We approved the official logos for OpenAjax Alliance in the summer and the member logo in the fall, but never produced and posted an official package because we were waiting on some legal things, such as Steering Committee approving the policy and guidelines for logos, which required some checking with Eclipse Foundation to make sure our language was OK to use since it originally came from Eclipse Foundation. Now, everyone is ready and the logos are posted. The ZIP files include README and LICENSE. The LICENSE simply provides the URL for the policy and guidelins Web page.

Topic: 2nd Generation White Papers - ready for review

Jon: I have completed drafts of the revised white papers. As decided in previous meetings, the original 24-page white paper is now broken down into 4 separate articles. The second article was a big focus of this committee a couple of months ago because it was submitted to AJAXWorld. The other 3 articles fit around this second article.

Dominic: I have looked at the first 2 but am just starting with the last 2. We are in the business of Ajax for business tasks, not just Ajax for UI. We provide more dynamic business logic that you can include in your application. This isn't in the articles now, but maybe exists between the lines. We see Ajax providing centralized management but with rich UI. Provide "desktop feel" rather than "desktop look". Possibly this is implied from the section on network programming, but needs to be highlighted better.

Jon: Great feedback. I will try to update the draft to address this suggestion.

Dominic: Call for help if you want it.

Jon: How about I take a crack, and then send email to marketing@openajax.org, at which point you can send feedback or modify the content yourself. Sound OK?

Dominic: Yes.

DavidF: I am traveling now but I will review the articles later.

Topic: Need to update Web site to reflect changes since September

  • Proposal: Jon create a staged version of updated Web site in time for next meeting in 2 weeks

Jon: We need to update the Web site to reflect changes since we posted the original Web site in September. Need to update discussion of the Hub, talk about Registry, talk about task force, things like that. I propose leaving the look the same, just update the content to be current. My proposal is that I create a staged version of the Web site before the next phone call for this committee so that we can see the new Web site and the white papers in place within the context of the Web site. Sound OK?

DavidB: One thing that comes up from the press is how much Ajax on the Web site.

Jon: An easy thing to do would be to promote the InteropFest wiki page from the wiki to the Web site. This would then have links to Ajax demos of products using the Hub. But only if we make enough progress with the InteropFest. Other stuff is harder and probably can't be completed by March.

Ted: Hard because you don't want to appear to show favoritism towards one member's technology.

Jon: Yes, when this was discussed last summer, we talked about worries about showing favoritism. Also, there was a feeling in this committee that we need to demo "OpenAjax", not just "Ajax". We have two time-consuming things. First, create a site that uses Ajax. Second, get agreement about how the site should work. Not a huge thing, but probably not possible by March.

Ted: I agree.

Dominic: Most vendors have demos that you can get to from home page. Maybe, have a categorization of vendors and jump to their Web site.

Jon: I have been thinking on those lines. Some sort of product or vendor selector application. But it's a lot of work and will require a good amount of discussion. My dream is to have a prototype ready for review and discussion at the face-to-face.

Topic: Agenda for March face-to-face meeting

  • Looks like InteropFest will happen offline - perhaps 1.5 hours for show&tell, feedback and discussion

Jon: Which brings up the last topic today. In about 8 weeks we will have our next face-to-face meeting.

DavidF: Shooting for demo and working session on Hub at F2F?

Jon: Everyone seems to be working on the InteropFest offline. So, my thinking is that we should devote 1.5 hours to the InteropFest for show&tell, feedback and discussion from the people who attempted to use the Hub so we can make fixes going forward. Don't need a whole day or anything like that. But that's just one possible session. It is clear we will need a good chunk of time just for status reporting from committees and task forces so everyone knows what's going on. Also, tell everyone about approval of Development Process. So, some of the agenda is pretty clear, but the rest of it needs to be figured out.
